Silky terrier is an adorable little dog, that reminds a lot of Yorkshire terrier. It is dynamic, attentive, tough, resilient by nature and incredibly affectionate. In the best appearance, it weighs in at approximately 3.6 – 4.5 kg with the height of approximately 23 cm. Despite its smaller shape, the Australian Silky Terrier is certainly not second-rate to similar terriers. It’s a fantastic family pet to keep if you are living in a city, because it effortlessly adjusts even to modest living spaces and also likes his walks, however in his home element, the open field, it truly becomes alive and can run around in incredible speeds, often at the expense of his smooth soft hair turning into a wonderful mess.

Ideally an Australian silky terrier has a smart and well-kept appearance, having a strong coat covering it from head to tail end. The coat shouldn’t be very long on the limbs beneath elbows and hocks.

Australian silky terrier was carefully bred by interbreeding Yorkshire terrier and skye terrier, even though it is likewise believed that the Australian terrier was also included in the interbreeding. This particular breed, which participated in the American dog shows in toy breeds class and labeled silky terrier was officially accepted in 1959. But it is only right up until not long ago that it obtained the right to be displayed in Great Britain, which has independent requirements for Australian terrier and silky terrier.

The canine itself is rather small with very low legs, moderately extended along with light built though fairly robust, letting it to efficiently kill residential pests. It could be recognized by the standard terrier qualities, which include sensitivity and attentiveness, playfulness and excellent health; its silky smooth coat separated at the center requires a properly kept physical appearance. The usual colors – blue and pale yellowish or grayish blue with pale yellowish – the more pronounced the colors, the better. The tail can be noted for considerably deeper blue coloration. The allocation of blue and yellowish colors is often as the following: the head should normally be sliver gray or yellowish, the hair around the ears, cheekbones and muzzle – yellowish, the body – generally bluish.

The head is longer and thicker, typical of terrier dogs, slightly wide in between the ears, the skull is smooth in between the eyes and the muzzle is slightly shorter versus the skull of the head. Lengthy hair on cheekbones and muzzle is unwanted.

On the whole silky terrier is an excellent option for anyone who wants a smaller and energetic pet.

The Brittany, sometimes referred to as the Brittany Spaniel, is a versatile sporting dog, that is also popular as a companion and family pet, due to its wonderful temperament. The breed originated in the French province of Brittany, from which it takes its name. Although most of the early records regarding the breed have been lost, it is certain that these dogs were bred to point and retriever for game bird hunters.

The Brittany first came to broad public attention when it debuted at the Paris Dog Show in 1900. In 1920, the first Brittanys reached American shores, with AKC recognition following in 1934.The Brittany is a compact, medium-sized dog, with long legs and floppy ears. The tail is either naturally short, or may be docked. Coat colors include orange and white coat, liver and white, orange roan and liver roan. Black and white is also accepted by other kennel clubs, but is considered a fault by the AKC.

These are active, intelligent, and obedient dogs who form close bonds with their owners and are very eager to please. They are good-natured, and get on with everyone. They are known to be excellent with children.Due to their intelligence, Brittanys are quick learners and easy to train. Training should be kept positive though as they are quite sensitive and don’t respond well to harsh treatment.

They are known to build a strong bond with one particular person, but generally they love everyone. They also get on well with other dogs and non-canine pets if socialized with them.

Brittanys are generally healthy, robust dogs who suffer from few health problems. They may however be prone to ear infections, hip dysplasia and epilepsy. Average lifespan for the breed is 12 – 14 years. Grooming a Brittany is quite easy. The coat will need to be brushed every second day or so, but unless your dog spends time in open fields, that’s about it.Dogs that spend time in open fields or woodland will have to be checked regularly for ticks.

A big plus with this breed is that they are single coated, and therefore shed very little.

As a dog bred for field work, the Brittany requires a great deal of exercise and is best suited to an active, outdoor individual or family. Apartment living is not ideal, although it can work if the dog gets enough outdoor exercise. A house with large garden will be a much better option though. Dogs that lack physical and mental stimulation often develop behavioral problems, and the Brittany will be no different. However, for the right owner, this dog will be a wonderful pet.

If you’re looking for puppy names, for your Brittany, I’d recommend Puppy Names HQ, a site with an extensive database of dog names, including thousands of cool dog names.

There are lots of myths about natural pet care. Some individuals think it is not as good as conventional medications. Some individuals think it isn’t safe and are worried about the side-effects. Some people think it is too expensive. Some people, as you’d guess, have not heard of natural care for pets in any way. This document, as you can guess from the title, intends to throw some light on pet care and gives you some tips to look after your pets naturally.

First off, let me tell you what natural pet care is all about. It involves treating and forestalling your pet’s health issues in the most natural demeanour achievable. In other words, it is not almost treating illnesses, but forestalling them by strengthening the immune response of your pet. Now, let us have a look at some of the most common misconceptions about holistic pet care.

Misconception 1 – Natural medications are not as good as conventional medications.Herbal and homeopathic medications can be very effective. Medical research behind conventional products are often better documented than holistic approaches, however the role of natural products and anti0oxidants in particular, have just proved to be favourable to humans and pets. While natural products cannot replace standard medications altogether, they are definitely a good choice for individuals who are searching for a safe and efficient way to treat their pet’s health issues.

Misconception 2 – Natural medications aren’t safe for pets.It is quite ironic that a large amount of folk are under the impression that natural pet care is not safe for their pets. Did you know why? The majority who choose natural treatments do it because they have less or no complications vs. Many prescribed pharmaceuticals available on the current market. Since most of the ingredients in these natural treatments are utterly organic, the prospects of allergic responses or other such side-effects are lower.

Misconception 3 – Natural medications are too pricey. Many owners provide hearty dose of natural remedies every day as a means of avoiding more expensive sicknesses. A month’s supply of these natural additions costs slightly below $50.or less than $2 a day. While $50 is lots of money, they can aid in avoiding high-priced issues. These products aren’t only safe, and cost-effective.

Misconception 4 – Herbal cures are usually manufactured by quacks with fake degrees and aren’t accepted by the FDA. There are a number of high quality herbal dietary additions for pets on today’s market. They are accepted by the FDA and are extraordinarily safe. However , this does not mean that there are no fake herbal products on the market . Just like every other field today, natural pet care has its own share of fake specialists too. To avoid such substandard products, you have to go for a good natural cure which is manufactured under the control of a certified pharmacist and meets the guidelines set by the DSHEA ( Diet Supplement Health Education Act ).

I’m hoping the essay clarified your doubts on natural pet care. Consider the advantages and the drawbacks of treating your pets naturally and make an informed decision today.

The Bernese Mountain Dog is a Swiss breed and is named after the city of Berne, Switzerland.

These large, friendly dogs were originally used as all-purpose farm dogs and excel at all kinds of jobs, including, guarding, herding sheep and cattle, and pulling heavy loads. Perhaps surprisingly, given their amiable personalities, the breed was also once used by the Romans as military dogs, accompanying their legions into battle.

The breed first arrived in the US in 1926, and the Berner Sennenhund, to give it its German name, was recognized by the AKC in 1937.

With its striking tri-color coat, the Bernese is an easily recognizable dog. The coat is mainly black with rust coloration on the face and chest, as well as the lower legs and paws. The coat is thick and heavy, to withstand the freezing Alpine temperature, while the fluffy tail and folded ears also offer protection from the weather.

A cheerful disposition and balanced personality, make the Bernese an ideal pet. They are loyal and devoted, and despite their large size, they are gentle and trustworthy with children. They are also placid and accepting of other pets – of both the canine and non-canine variety.

The Bernese loves playing games, so he makes an excellent choice for a family with children. Their balanced, outgoing personality means they adapt to most living situations as long as they are close to those they love

Grooming a Bernese is quite labor intensive. They shed all year round with particularly heavy shedding in spring. Daily brushing is required to keep the coat looking its best and to keep your home free of dog hair. You’ll also have to regularly inspect and clean the ears, as they are prone to infection.

In common with most purebred breeds, the Bernese has a number of inherited health problems. The most serious of these is canine cancer, while the breed is also at risk from joint and bone diseases, like arthritis, ligament ruptures and hip dysplasia. Less serious ailments include infections of the eyes and ears. Unfortunately, the Bernese is a short-lived breed, with an average lifespan of just 6-8 years.

Despite its history as a working dog, the Bernese can be quite lazy, and will loaf around if allowed to. It is up to the owner to ensure that the dog gets sufficient exercise. Like most dogs, the Bernese enjoys a good walk and can even be taught to pull a cart, like their forebears did.

The Bernese is a joy to have around. These gentle giants have a wonderfully balanced temperament which makes them, loving, loyal and affectionate pets. They are intelligent dogs, but not the easiest to train because they regard everything as a game. You can use that to your advantage by keeping training sessions short and positive and using games as a reward. As most Bernese owners will tell you, they never grow up and retain their puppy exuberance throughout.

If you’re looking for a name for your Bernese Mountain Dog, the best advice is to visit a puppy names, website. The one that I recommend is Puppy Names HQ, which has a huge database of excellent dog names including 1000s of female dog names.

Although terrier dog breeds such as Maltese terriers have only a minimum of health problems, you should also be aware that they do have some medical concerns. So in the next succeeding paragraphs are some of the most average health concerns that this unique terrier dog breed can confront. Especially if you have a Maltese terrier, you must comprehend what are the signs and symptoms of these health concerns and how to remedy them.

Eye infections – One fact that makes Maltese terriers really notable is the hair that circulates all around the eyes – which tends to grow excessively. And through that, it is effortless for them to have eye infections. So for you to discourage eye infections, you have to clip the hair around the eyes consistently. Eye irritation can occur when you don’t trim it and that could cause eye infections which can also be a reason why your dog develops loss of sight.

Slipped Stifle – Slipped stifle happens when the joint locates on the back leg of your dog which has the capability to bend will slip from time to time. It is pretty much a common Maltese terrier health concern. When the slip occurs it will produce a limp. Luckily it does fix itself on its own even without your support then again it can also cause your dog to undergo an operation but that solely happens when the problem persists and when your dog is suffering from absolute discomfort.

Collapsed Trachea – The trachea is the part of the dog’s body that allows air to pass through from the nose all the way to the lungs and when this part collapses, it is a serious health problem. And this is also a known health concern among Maltese terriers. If you want to know what possible signs that you can discern to determine whether your dog has collapsed trachea, check if he has a chronic cough. Apart from that when your dog produces a honking goose-like sound, he has the chance of having this problem. For a second time, surgery will be mainly the most crucial approach to minister to it but that would only be the case when it is not treated for a prolonged time. Thankfully it can also be treated with medication.

Liver Shunts – As early as a new born puppy, liver shunts can be found in a Maltese terrier. Liver shunts is a condition where the liver does not obtain enough oxygen that it has to have to work after birth. The cause of this is poor circulation of the blood inside the puppy’s body. This health concern that the Maltese terrier could face can be very serious so it is imperative that it should be detected right then and there. A successful surgery operation should help the problem. Maltese terriers are one of the most top dog breeds for good reason. They are cute, and generally healthy and fun dogs.

Dogs throw up quite often. This is just natural canine behavior, and can have a number of underlying reasons.

So before you grab your car keys to rush the dog off to the vet, stop awhile! In most cases, there is no need for concern. Vomiting is just a natural way in which dogs remove unwanted matter from the body.

Of course, I’m not suggesting that you ignore it completely, because sometimes vomiting does suggest a more serious problem. But you’ll need to observe the dog for other symptoms, for example, If the vomiting is accompanied by diarrhea, loss of appetite and general listlessness.

If these symptoms are present, get your dog to the vet right away, even though in most instances, it’s probably nothing to be concerned about.

Here are some common reasons why your dog may be vomiting;

Eating too much or too fast – Let’s face it, some dogs eat as if they’re afraid their food bowl is about to sprout wings and fly away! If this describes your dog, then feeding him smaller, more frequent, meals may reduce the recurring instances of dog vomiting.

Eating Grass – Many dogs enjoy eating grass and you have to wonder why, because it often makes them throw up. Even the experts are not sure why they do it, but the fact is, dogs that eat grass often vomit straight after.

Eating the wrong foods – A dog will eat just about anything, so it’s up to you to ensure that your dog gets a healthy diet. Dogs that live on junk food and table scraps are always going to throw up. Ditto, dogs that make a habit of raiding the trash.

When should I be concerned?

Usually, vomiting is down to one of the 3 reasons I mentioned above. But if it becomes a recurring problem, say once a day or more, you’d be well advised to make your dog checked by a vet.

Also keep a close watch on the dog’s other symptoms. In addition to those I mentioned earlier, you should be particularly vigilant for signs of blood in the vomit, as well as any strange colors. If you see this, you’ll have to get your dog to the vet straight away.

Vomiting may also be due to a more serious cause, for example your dog may have eaten a household poison, like a pesticide, or even a poisonous plant. If you think this may be the case then immediate veterinary treatment is called for.

How To Stop Your Dog From Vomiting

If you have a dog that throws up on a regular basis, there are a number of commonsense measures that you can put in place to reduce it.

Start by feeding your dog a healthy diet. Cut out all table scraps and junk foods and ensure that your dog cannot get into the trashcan. Feed your dog more frequent, smaller meals and add a fiber supplement, so the dog is less inclined to eat grass.

In most cases, these simple steps are enough to sort out the problem. If however, your dog continues to throw up, you should speak to your vet.

Dogs are wonderful pets to have. These animals are loyal friends that can help a person do many things. I’ve met dog owners that use their dogs as running partners, security guards, hunting assistants, and even disability enablers.

However, for all their good qualities, dogs really can’t successfully take care of themselves in your home. You can expect your dog to be a good hunter, but he can’t certainly make a nice meal. When you buy a dog, you’re going to have to feed him, house him, train him, and make sure that he is in good health. All of this is work, but don’t be discouraged, it is well worth the effort.

When you first buy a dog, dog flea treatment should be high on your list of purchases. Nobody wants to bring a dog home just to end up with fleas on their first day. In addition, you should vaccinate your dog before you bring him home. Your dog will live longer and be more happy if he is healthy.

Next, you’ll want to make sure you have a leash or a fenced in yard. However, you won’t be able to have a fenced yard if you live in a big city apartment. Dogs need exercise, fresh air, and a toilet to use. You’ll find that the great outdoors serves all three of these purposes quite nicely.

The leash you buy should be sturdy enough to hold your dog even if he decides to pull. You should be prepared at all times even if your dog has been trained to be obedient with you. You won’t be happy if your dog accidentally broke his leash and went straight into a truck.

Food items should be next on your list. Dogs can and will eat just about anything, but that doesn’t mean they should. Both you and your dog will be happy with a specially made dog food because not only will your dog be satisfied, cleaning your dog’s poop won’t be a big issue for you.

What you will need next are containers for the food and water of your dog. It is ideal that you purchase two bowls: one for the water and the other for their solid food. Make sure that the bowls aren’t small because it would be a hassle to fill them constantly. However, make sure you clean the dog’s water at least once a day. You can expect dirt and dog hair to get in your dog’s water bowl so it is up to you to remove them.

Many pet owners believe that dog foods are created equal and provide all the nutrients their pet’s needs to be healthy. Unfortunately this is not true and selecting the wrong dog food can have a big impact on your pet’s health. Most dog foods don’t provide all of your dog’s nutritional needs. Many that are advertised as high quality have a very small amount of the nutrients necessary for good health. The easiest way to tell if a dog food is truly high quality is to determine what nutrients your dog needs and then compare the ingredients of various dog foods to find the one that will be best for them.

Commercial dog foods often contain countless by-products that can actually be poisonous and contribute to health problems such as cancer, heart disease, arthritis, and other serious health conditions. These by-products are added to dog food as a way for companies to maximize their profits and in turn are harming your pet friend. Some dog foods boast they are high in protein and fiber, but are normally full of substances that are not even digestible. These substances raise the readings of protein and fiber in the food. Fillers such as corn and wheat provide little nutritional significance and do nothing for your pet.

Dogs nutritional needs vary based on age, size, physical activity, and certain medical conditions. Puppies have different nutritional needs than senior dogs. Most puppy food is designed to promote growth and reproduction by containing larger levels of protein and amino acids. Since adult dogs need to maintain their weight, their foods are lower in fat and protein. Foods marketed for senior dogs are normally loaded with fillers and will not provide the nutrients they need. When a dog has been spayed or neutered, their physical activity decreases and they require a food with a less fat and protein. Larger dogs need calcium and protein for maintenance whereas smaller pet’s do better with more carbohydrates that help with their high energy levels. Of course your budget determines your decision as well. Use these factors to initially determine how much protein, fat, carbohydrates, and amino acids your dog needs to get the proper nutrition.

A good dog food should be made from real meat such as chicken or beef and not mostly of meat by-products. The food should be made from whole grain instead of fillers such as corn meal. Food processing strips vitamins and minerals from the food. Look for a food that has been fortified with vitamins. Dog vitamins such as a multivitamin may even be necessary to make up for the loss of nutrients in dog food.

Even after you have found the right dog food, there are other things your dog requires to promote good health. These include plenty of exercise, rest, and love. Dog supplements can prevent your dog from developing health conditions such as heart disease, joint problems, and intestinal track infections. Giving your dog the proper nutrition will keep them around for a long time and provide you with a very happy companion.

Choosing the proper food for your pet is very important. Some lack the ingredients and dog vitamins [http://www.prouddoghealth.com/dog-supplements-vitamins] your dog needs to be healthy. You should check the labels of the food to ensure they are not full of by-products and fillers that could be harmful to their health. Dog supplements are also very beneficial to your pet’s diet and should be used in conjunction with a good food to ensure your family friend is happy and living the best life possible.

The Cairn Terrier is an intelligent, loyal and brave little dog that has bags of character. The most famous of the breed was Terry, who appeared as Toto in The Wizard of Oz.

Hailing, originally from Scotland, the Cairn was bred to control rodents and to hunt foxes. The name comes from “cairn”, which is a narrow space between two boulders. These dogs were small enough, and brave enough to pursue a fox or other quarry through these gaps. The Cairn is an old breed, and has been around since the 1500s.

These rugged little dogs are solidly-built, with short legs and strong hindquarters. The face has a “foxy” expression, and the ears are small and pointed. The coat is shaggy, and rough and can be a number of colors, including cream, wheaten, red, sandy, gray, or brindle.

These dogs make excellent family pets and are an absolute joy to have around. They are playful, friendly and outgoing, and do well with older children and with other dogs. You will, though, have to watch them with younger kids as they do not respond well to rough treatment. And you should also supervise them around non-canine pets, especially rodents.

Cairns are very clever dogs. They are generally easy to train and enjoy learning to perform tricks. They are sensitive though, so you’ll need to focus on positive reward-based methods if you want to see results. The females tend to be more independent than the males and are therefore slightly more of a challenge to train.

They are also very quick and agile, meaning that they are keen competitors in various canine sports. Cairns do exceptionally well at flyball, agility and obedience trials.

With an average lifespan of between 12 and 15 years, the Cairn is a healthy, robust dog. However, they are not immune to genetic diseases and are known to suffer from progressive retinal atrophy, cataracts, hypothyroidism, and entropion. These dogs are also very sensitive to flea bites, so you’ll need to take steps to control these pests.

Grooming a Cairn Terrier is fairly easy. They shed very little and require only a good brush down every other day to keep the coat looking its best. The undercoat tends to be quite sensitive so be careful to brush gently. The dog can be bathed monthly and you should also take care to trim the hair around the eyes.

While a Cairn Terrier will live happily in an apartment, it will need to get out for exercise every day. A daily walk is an absolute must, while a game of fetch or tag will always be appreciated.

Good names for a Cairn Terrier can be hard to find. The best advice is to search one of the online puppy names, sites, and my personal favorite is Puppy Names HQ. This site has thousands of excellent dog names, including a mega-database of girl dog names to pick from.

There are quite a few pet owners who wonder if feeding their dogs treats is really good for them or if it will harm them in any way. Just like with humans, the key to snacking in between meals lies in moderation and also with the food that is consumed.

It is okay to feed your dog treats, but only if they are somewhat healthy for them and appropriate for their specific diet. Dog owners will also want to know that feeding treats to dogs frequently can easily lead to weight gain and other serious problems which you will want to avoid altogether, so it will be important to make sure that you watch how many treats you are giving your dog each day.

Those dog owners who like to train their pets to do tricks will obviously need treats as an incentive, but it is still important to make sure that you are giving them the right ones. First consider if the diet your dog is on is dry or wet, because that will play a vital role in determining which type of treats you should be giving them. You will definitely want to consult a veterinarian before purchasing any treats at all, or at least do some research online by looking up which ones are best for the kind of dog that you have.

Believe it or not, different kinds of dogs should eat different foods, and that includes the treats they get. Sometimes pet owners fail to purchase the right kind of treats for their dogs and as a result their stomachs can become upset or they will begin to gain weight over time. Since losing weight is even difficult for a dog, it is important to make sure that you help to take care of their bodies by closely monitoring what you put into it.

Giving your dog treats in the form of human food is never a good idea, although there are certain kinds of foods that are not terrible for dogs, such as peanut butter. Sometimes people give their dogs human food in place of dog food for getting them to eat their medication in pill form, which is okay but only on occasion and only if it is a healthy food for them. Tuna and peanut butter are two foods that are okay for most dogs to eat, but that isn’t always the case.

Rewarding your dog with treats is a common practice. But take care to learn what treats are best and make sure your dog stays at a healthy weight. This practice will keep you and your best friend happy!

Piper enjoys spending time with her family and their three dogs. She makes sure her dogs have good outdoor dog beds [http://www.coolingpetbed.net/outdoor-dog-beds/] so they are comfortable. Piper enjoys nature and reading. She loves her pets and makes sure they have a good pet bed [http://www.coolingpetbed.net/] to relax in.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Piper_Cox
http://EzineArticles.com/?Are-Treats-Good-For-Your-Dogs-Diet?&id=5719735
