When Should You Start Brushing Your Corgi?

I have a 10 week old corgi puppy who I have been working with to get her accustomed to being brushed. But when do corgies get their adult coats? And when should you groom them, how frequently(daily? weekly? monthly?)? I know as adults they shed twice a year. I already have a soft brush and a furminator in preparation for grooming her. I guess my question is when do you start brushing your puppy and how frequently?

Start right now by brushing every day for short periods of time…5 minutes maybe to start. Get the pup accustomed to being brushed, as it will have a lifetime of this happening. Play with it’s toes so it will get used to having its’ feet touched and toenails clipped. Don’t just brush the top or outside of the haircoat…brush down to the skin…that’s where the mats will form.

I had a corgi. I got him from my vet when he was 2 years old…so I can’t answer the question about when they get their adult coat, however, I had to brush him two to three times a week because he shed all the time. He was used to being brushed when I got him and he would grunt like a little piggy. It was cute.

You should definitely start right away to get your puppy used to brushing and grooming. I had one dog that I missed the boat on and when he would see the brush come out he would run down the hallway as fast as he could go to run out the doggy door. LOL.
