Whats the difference between a Cardigan and Pembroke welsh corgi besides the tail? The only difference I see in them is that the Pembroke’s have short tails and the Cardigans have long tails, is there any other difference?
Pembroke’s are the ones with the short tails because their tails "broke off", I know it isn’t color because they can be any color of either breed.
Here’s the facts:
Pembroke and Cardigans are similar but very different. A Pem is smaller on average. They have smaller, more pointed ears, and no tails. They tend to be a bit more friendlier. They are far more popular than the Cardigans (the Queen of England has Pembrokes). Pembroke are only allowed to be one of three colors (red and white, sable, or tri color).
Cardigans are bigger dogs. Their ears are larger and not as pointed at the tips. They come in a much larger variety of colors (merle, tri color, red and white, sable, brindle, etc). Their front assembly (front legs and shoulders) are bowed inward, while the Pem’s are straight. They tend to be not as affectionate until they get to know you. And of course, there’s that large tail that sets them apart from the Pems.
I’ve researched both breeds, and ultimately decided on the Pembroke. It was a better fit for my life, but if you really like the idea of a "big dog", go for the Cardigan. Both dogs make wonderful pets, though. My Pem isn’t hyperactive like most small dogs, and he’s very trainable.

CWC originated in Cardiganshire in Wales and PWC in Pembrokeshire. Both counties are hilly and rocky and the Welsh cattle are smallish, so a small dog was needed to herd and to be a house dog. Cardiganshire is more remote, inaccessible and inhospitable and with various canine introductions, the 2 breeds did develop differently. CWC are slightly longer, taller, heavier, have huge ears and have a wrap around front developed to enable rapid movement on the rocky hills. CWC comes in a greater range of colours than PWC, including Brindle and they can carry the Merle gene. The CWC has never been a docked breed and have a gentle slope at the end of their backs. They are a strong, solid, inquisitive breed and can be a little wary with strangers.

you have good info above to answer your question! i have a pembroke and would love to get a cardigan someday too( those huge ears just KILL me!). they are wonderful dogs! there are two personality types with corgis…worry corgis and party corgis. i have had both and they are very different! with one…he will always have your safety on his mind. the other one just wants to party!
