I have a corgi that is 9 years old. I was just wondering about this. Thanks!
My Corgi is 11, and nowhere near dead. She has no major health problems, all her organs are functioning fine, she’s not slowing down even a little bit, and she’s happy and active and alert.
Some things to think about with Corgis — they have a lot of back/joint problems because they are dwarves. It is always good to keep them on some kind of glucosamine supplement. The liquid ones are the most effective, but every kind should have some benefits. Some foods even have glucosamine added in.
Watch their weight. As they get older, Corgis can put on weight pretty easily. Keep your dog on a low-fat, low-cal food, and don’t overfeed. If your Corgi is hungry a lot, and you’re in the habit of feeding treats, try giving baby carrots or cut up squash instead of commercial dog treats. I know it sounds crazy, but Corgis LOVE raw vegetables! Watching weight will help with the joint issues, as well as overall health.
If your Corgi is slowing down, have the thyroid tested. This seems to be a pretty common thing with Corgis, and is an easy fix with proper medication.
