How much should I expect to pay for a pure breed Welsh Corgi puppy in CA?

I'm looking for others who have purchased a pure breed Welsh Corgi puppy from breeders in CA, particularly the Bay Area.

How much did you pay for your Corgi puppy? Is it a pet or show quality puppy? Was there a contract and/or health/temperament guarantee? During your research, what was the price-range offered by the breeders? When did you purchase the puppy?

Thanks in advance!

California is at the high end of any pricing of anything, dogs included. I would think you could get a nice pet quality well bred, health tested, temperament evaluated pup for around $1000 -1500. Show quality would be likely more around the 2000 or so mark. Hips and elbows should be done as well as guaranteed (although guarantees are only worth as much as the breeder behind it is). You can't really 'guarantee' temperament - just have parent's temperaments evaluated and have puppy temperament testing done and have the pup well socialized and confident - you can screw the dog up later on, which happens, there is no way to guarantee that you won't so breeders that have a clue can't really guarantee that. Health can be guaranteed only as far as it can be predicted — there are health issues that can only be pedigree evaluated for, although Corgis are a fairly hearty breed, but certain health things can be guaranteed and others just can't - you can do thyroid testing on parents or cardiac testing and then later in life they can develope stuff that there was no way of you knowing about — basically a good conscientious breeder will explain all this to you and be well worth the money spent just in support and information alone. You can likely get a cheaper Corgi from the paper or internet but you get what you pay for — that doesn't mean that ignorant greeders won't charge a lot but you need to do your homework on what distinguishes a good, responsible breeder from a greeder. I know a good Corgi breeder but she is in Texas and actually I am not sure she is breeding any longer - but someone like her would be a great mentor for you if you could locate one close to you. Maybe check out the all breed kennel club in the bay area as well as Corgi specialty clubs - the website for the parent club should give good educational information about the breed as well. Corgis generally have decent temperaments if they are reared properly (so that is important - that the breeder do proper socialization both with people as well as with littermates). Sometimes you if you are an excellent home and you are obviously wanting to show or trial a dog price isn't an issue — I have placed dogs, excellent dogs, quite inexpensively just to get them in the right home but you tend to have to prove yourself. Good luck.

Why pay $1000 for a corgi puppy? when you can get a purebred or mixed bred shelter dog for $200&save a life.
Make sure you pick a dog that suits yourlifestyle, don't buy it on looks, colour or favourite breed along& don't buy from a petstores

That person is right. Why pay so much for a puppy from a breeder when you can save a life and get a perfectly good puppy from a shelter?
Please try it.
I just typed in a randomn CA zip code. You can change it if you need to.

You should consider getting a Corgi from a shelter first before getting a dog from a breeder and filling his/her pocket. These dogs will get killed if nobody adopts them in a certain number of days.
The closest Welsh Corgis in a shelter near you is Marge in Sylmar CA , Fender and Gigi in Lormita CA , Lacookie in Orange CA, and A1182256 in Bonita CA.
