How Much Roughly Will a Corgi Registered Engineer to Connect a Gas Boiler?

Neighbour had a gas condencing boiler , water tank and tank in the attic fitted but he is not registered corgi. He is getting a corgi registered engineer to come out and connect the gas to the boiler as all the pipes are all in place. Will he produce a certificate for this work and how much do you think this would cost. She has been quoted over a thousand pounds just to get the gas connected and provide a certificate.

There is more to being Gas Safe registered than connecting gas pipes.
Has the the boiler and flue been fitted to the manufacturers instructions and Benchmark requirements? No,as you have to be suitably qualified in the first place.
No registered installer should connect and notify the boiler as they would be breaching the regulations,so if you do get someone to do it for you,can you be sure that they are going to do it right as they would obviously have no regards for the regs anyway.

Although this boiler has been installed illegally, A Gas Safe registered engineer could still commission it and sign off the documentation. You are going to find that most engineers wont go anywhere near it or will ask for an exorbitant amount to sign it off because its not their own work.If you cant find anyone I’ll sign it off it for five grand.

it is the gas safe’s engineer lively-hood at stake signing off someone Else’s work and if he or she is willing to take that risk for only £1000.00 then you should think yourself lucky. i would not take that risk.

Firstly just being picky Corgi ceased to exist from a point of view of installer registration on the UK mainland over 18 months ago. This scheme is now called Gas Safe. Your neighbour is very lucky to get anyone to carry out this work at all as any gas appliance must be installed by a person who is registered with Gas Safe for the category of appliance involved. That means as far as a boiler is concerned virtually from opening the box to filling in the required paperwork at the end of the job. If someone else has fitted the boiler to the wall and run the flue how is this other person going to know it as been done correctly without taking it apart and checking. You cannot sign off something in good conscience without knowing it is correct. This installer is I believe in breach of Gas Safe rules by doing this in the first place and ultimately the customer is unlikely to have saved much if anything by being clever and trig to short circuit the system. It can cost a registered installer with a few approvals to work with over £1000 per year to keep up to date with those approvals and that doesnt necessarily include the lost time whilst renewing those approvals.
EDIT I see the phanton thumbs downer has been busy again. Obviously not too keen on hearing the truth methinks.

    Hi Andy.
There is no such thing as Corgi.
    It is Gas Safe now.
You won’t get a Gas Safe engineer to connect a boiler that an unqualified person has fitted.
You have to be Gas Safe registered to work on a gas fitting and a flue.
If your friend has fitted the boiler then they must have worked on the flue.
    This illegal.
Why should a registered engineer come and put his name to an installation that has been fitted illegally.
He is on a hiding to nothing.
    You won’t get it done.
The thousand pounds is for him to take it down and start from scratch.
    BB.
